Jake Paul has put another iconic name on his boxing resume by easily defeating Julio César Chavez Jr., the son of the legendary fighter Julio César Chávez, this past Saturday in Anaheim, California, at the Honda Center. It was a dominant performance where, at times during the fight, Chavez Jr. was a target for Paul, the fighter and social media influencer. Paul threw his jab with consistency throughout the night and won the early and middle rounds due to his jab and Chavez Jr.’s inactivity. His scores were dominant and a UD, 99-91, 97-93, and 98-92.

Chavez Jr. picked up the tempo only in the last two rounds of the 10-round bout and hit Jake with hard shots that Paul absorbed. His lackluster performance seemed to upset his father, Julio César Chavez Sr. He was featured on camera during the fight, standing up and yelling something at his son. The shots that Chavez Jr. got through on Jake Paul may give other fighters confidence to get in the ring with the cruiserweight Paul in the future.

That said, the Mexican star did not try to win and Jake sensed that, he said after the fight in the ring, “I only got hit 10 times … he just survived. Easy work. I never got hurt. I want tougher fighters. I’m just getting warmed up in this shit.”

The sky’s the limit for Jake Paul as he has created an ecosystem independent of the money man in boxing, His Excellency Turki Alalshikh, whom other fighters like Canelo Alvarez and Bud Crawford, as they will be fighting each other on September 13th have relied upon to get big paydays and big fights. Jake is interested in fighting the likes of Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez, as he said he did not like his co-main performance against the Cuban Yuniel Dorticos, Jake said of Ramirez that he was “slow as shit.”

Ramirez defeated Dorticos in UD scores of 99-91, 97-93, and 98-92, at the Honda Center. A bout between Jake Paul and Ramirez may not be next as “Zurdo” called out IBF titleholder Jai Opetaia, of Australia. Jake also called out Gervonta “Tank” Davis, Anthony Joshua, and the only man to beat him Tommy Fury after his victory, “take a number.”

Ramirez is on a winning streak now of four consecutive victories. He’s Mexico’s unified cruiserweight WBA and WBO champion. He defeated the Cuban with scores of 117-110, 115-112, 115-112. The Cuban kept getting warned for low blows and was warned by the referee or he’ll deduct a point. In the seventh round, Ramirez hit the Cuban’s head back, and in the ninth round he hit Dorticos with four successive shots to his belt. The Cuban was deducted a point for a low blow in the 10th round.

WBA President Gilberto Ramirez said Saturday night that he plans to rank the Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) fighter, Jake Paul, a top 15 ranked fighter that makes him qualified to get title shots. It’s easy to see the WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman following suit and ranking Jake Paul as well. He now has a professional record of 12 wins and 1 loss, with 7 KOs. His last two fights are now with two iconic names: Julio César Chavez Jr. and Mike Tyson. He’s found a way to get rounds in and achieve a winning record all the while while making money and growing his stardom in the boxing world.

Earlier in the night, Floyd Schofield defeated former 130 lbs titleholder Tevin Farmer in a stunning first-round knockout victory. He got three knockdowns with rapid punches to Farmer’s head and the referee called off the fight 1 minute, 18 seconds in. Nicknamed “Kid Austin” he said after the fight, “I just feel like, with the win, everything is lifted off my shoulders.” He had the opportunity to fight Shakur Stevenson in Riyadh this past February but pulled out of the fight while his father claimed that he was poisoned. “I wanted to quit boxing. I was depressed. Reading the comments got to me a bit,” that’s what Schofield said after his KO win. “It made me feel some way that people would switch up on me for one thing.”

Golden Boy promoter Oscar De La Hoya said of “Kid Austin” “Kid Austin has been through a lot,” he plans to match Schofield with the winner of Stevenson-Zepeda on July 12 at Ring III in New York.
